Dominica: Carib Territory & L'Escalier Tête-chien
Carib Territory is in the northeast (Atlantic coast). Arawaks from South America colonized Caribbean islands, and were living on them when Columbus arrived. These peoples acquired the name "Caribs".

In the Carib creation tale, a huge snake climbed from the sea to make the island, and became frozen into its rocks. L'Escalier Tête-chien (Stairway of the snake's head in Creole) illustrates the creation vision.

Emeline (above) kindly guided us down the trail to the snake's head.

Ruth took this panoramic view.
