Amherstia is called "Elephant Flower" locally, probably because its pistils curl up like the animal's trunk. It grows on trees and has a beautiful sweet smell. (Most tropical blossoms have none at all.) We were told that is can be crushed into an intoxicating drink called "joy juice".

This wild pea was too small to collect for eating.

Sorrel is crushed into juice for a traditional Christmas season punch.

As one might imagine, hummingbirds love Turk's cap.
